Tournament Results

We did a tournament in RAndy's Bar last night. It was pretty fun. Personally, I like playing scotch doubles more. I think we should do a blind draw scotch doubles tournament next time.

First Place: Ralph "il Maestro" Chiaia (i know, home field advantage -- blah blah -- but then Andy should have won too
Second Place: Chris "Mad Dog" Larsen (yes, "en," it's a Norwegian thing)
Third Place: Johnny Magyaros

The Draw looked something like this:

29 February 2012 Pool Tournament at RAndy's

Next Wednesday Bless U. iTeam has a bye in the Itaewon Pool League (IPL) so some of the iTeam members will play a tournament at RAndy's Bar at 7:30 p.m. If you want to be a part of it, please sign up by 7 p.m. We will have a single's 8-ball tournament, a Scotch Doubles 8-ball tournament (random draw), and, time permitting, a 9-ball tournament. The bar will give the away two free pitchers of Red Rock to the participants. Entry will be 5,000 Won and first, second, and third will split the prize.

Scotch Doubles Definition (from Billiard's Forum)

Scotch Doubles is a type of doubles billiard play. In this version, each team member alternates shots during an inning. For example, if you are on a team with Jimmy, and you shoot and pocket a ball, your team's inning continues, but Jimmy takes the next shot. You can Jimmy continue to rotate shots until one player misses. At this point, your team'sinning ends, and the other team's inning begins. Effective and carefully honed communication skills will greatly benefit players in a scotch rotation of play. Intimate communication between each team member is paramount. As you can imagine, the team mate is justly concerned about the cue ball positioning that will result from your shot. As noted in the wikipedia entry for this term, the word "scotch" is generally not to be capitalized when used in this context.

Some musings regarding the pub and shit

Tex may have missed his flight, lol.

Andy "the Best Doubles Partner Ever" claims that he has never, not once, not by accident nor on purpose, jumped the cue ball from the table when breaking. Everybody was rooting for him to do it, but he hasn't. Maybe he just doesn't have the power. Ralph jumps it off the table around 30% of the time, Jeremy as high as 50% of the time (not bad for a scrawny white guy).

Gay shots with Banana and Crown rather than Butterscotch and Vodka are a very nice alternative. That's Tex being the mad-scientist mixologist on that one.

Do Foreigners need to learn Korean to live in Korea? (See the poll in Hot Pink^^)
